About Prats de Mollo and how to get there
Prats de Mollo is a medieval town at the eastern end of the Pyrenees
mountains. It is situated in the Tech valley 10 miles from the border
with Spain and one hour from the Mediterranean coast.
It generally enjoys exceptionally good weather (apparently 300 days
of sun per year). Being high, at 2500ft, it is slightly cooler (7degrees)
than the Mediterranean coast. The temperatures here would normally be
in the mid 30’s during peak season.
It is home to about 1100 permanent residents although in the season
the numbers grow. The town has all the facilities one would expect all
within a two minute walk from the house (bank, bakery, butcher, 2 small
supermarkets, doctor, chemist, restaurants, tourist information, hotels
and bars). There is a food market in the square every Friday.
The majority of the dwellings are within the fortified walls (including
our house). Within the walls the roads are very old, narrow and many
of them cobbled. Consequently the majority of the streets are traffic
(and noise) free. There is however, ample free car parking close nearby
(even at the height of the season).
Perpignon Airport is just over an hour away; there is a bus all the
way from Perpignon to Prats de Mollo if you do not want to hire a vehicle.
Other Airports:
Girona airport (sometimes called Barcelona Girona by the airlines)
is around 90 minutes away while Barcelona Airport is 2.5 hours away.
The Gite is also accessable from Carcassonne, Toulouse and Montpelier.
