The town and history - Prats de Mollo in
the Pyrenees
Prats de Mollo is an ancient fortified town built into the foothills
of the Pyrenees. This beautiful Catalan town is 2500ft above sea level
with superb views over the adjoining countryside and Pyrenees mountains.
Many of the buildings are older than their recorded history. The
town is protected from further development or change by local planning
laws.
The first recorded history of the Prats de Mollo dates back to 878.
The town’s situation on the border between France and Spain,
together with its Catalan roots, has conspired to give the area a
rich but bloody history.
The Tourist Information Office in the main square provides a leaflet
(in English if required) that gives a full history of the town and
a guided tour round the medieval fortifications and buildings.
